Anyone can suffer from depression. It doesn’t matter how old the person is, their gender, race, or how much money they have. In America, it’s estimated that about 19 million Americans suffer from depression each year. Depression doesn’t mean someone has flaw in their character or that they are a weak person. Depression is a real medical condition/illness that can be treated with medication. With proper treatment about 80 percent of patients show improvement.
Depression isn’t just moodiness or someone having the blues. Symptoms of depression last for long period of time with the person feeling extremely sad. They might lose interest in daily tasks or in their family and friendships. Depression can also make a person feel as if they have no energy and/or make them not be able to concentrate.
There are different types of depression such as manic depression, postpartum depression, teenage depression, clinical depression, bipolar depression and seasonal depression.
